BOGOR – All amil and amilat of The National Board of Zakat, The Republic of Indonesia (BAZNAS RI), should have high sensitivity to 8 asnaf (those entitled to receive zakat), especially the poor and needy.

“So, every amil and amilat must keep sharpening the ‘sense of asnaf’ to be an honest, trustworthy, professional, and responsible person toward his duties,” said Vice Chairman of BAZNAS, Dr. Zainulbahar Noor, when closing the Work Meeting (Raker) Directorat of General Affairs of BAZNAS in Sentul, Bogor, West Java, on Saturday (21/01).

The meeting that was opened by members of BAZNAS Irsyadul Halim and Prof. Dr. Mundzir Suparta and lasted for two days discussed the working programs of each unit in the Directorate of General Affairs of BAZNAS. The eight asnaf are poor, needy, amil, mualaf, riqab (slave), gharim (people who were in debt), fisabilillah, and ibnu sabil (people who were on the way).

Zainul reminded the amil-amilat to strengthen the sensitivity toward the needy by increasing the intensity of activities that are directly related to the poor. “Be often to attend, respond, and help the poor. And if needed, to impregnate their suffering, stay several days with them,” he said.

Amil-amilat of BAZNAS, he continued, must keep three things in their activities, especially in using the zakat, infaq, and shadaqah (ZIS) fund. “Namely, in the name of Allah, we have to be careful, be aware, and be conscious. Because, all things that we do will be legally accounted, both in the world and in the hereafter, that is in the presence of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala (SWT),” he said.

Related to that, Zainul refer to the legislative reference that BAZNAS is a nonstructural government agency which is in charge of socio-religion issues. “It is stated in the Undang-Undang No. 23 Tahun 2011 regarding zakat management. Therefore, BAZNAS is not a corporation or company. In the law, it is clearly stated that the zakat management, besides aims to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of service in managing zakat, it also aims to improve the benefit of zakat to realize the public welfare and poverty alleviation,” Zainul said.

He explained, Article 3 (b) in the UU 23 Tahun 2011 about zakat management says, “The management of zakat aims to improve the benefit of zakat to realize the public welfare and poverty alleviation.”

In the same place, a member of BAZNAS Irsyadul Halim also asked the amil-amilat of BAZNAS besides to be professional in the service and socio-religious empowerment, they must increase their capacity in various field.

“To be an amil-amilat, do not only focus on one area, but all lines must be mastered. Follow the trend and current issues. It can also be done by learning to sharpen the professionalism, reading the books or watching latest movies depicting the future. The goal is to develop and increase the capacity of BAZNAS,” he said.

Irsyadul Halim also gave tausiyah about management according to the Al Quran. The former Head of Waqf and Properties Assembly PP Muhammadiyah quoted Surah Al-Hasyr verse 18 which means: "O you who have believed, fear Allah. And let every soul look to what it has put forth for tomorrow (the Hereafter); and fear Allah. Indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what you do."
