Start from 2017, BAZNAS Meranti District spreads zakat on agriculture sector, especially for rice farming. For this first year, BAZNAS Meranti has been succesfully collecting approximately 700 kilograms paddy at Rangsangbarat Regency.

The information derived by Secretary of BAZNAS Kepulauan Meranti District, Mr. Khozin, in accompanied by Head of Finance Division, Mr. Yono on Monday (22/5/2017)

As mentioned by Mr. Khozin, this 700 kilograms of rice will be distributed to the Rangsangbarat people that entitled to receive it. Before distributed, the paddy firstly milled into rice and packed into 5 kg per pack, then given to the beneficier recipient, “zakat on agriculture is just implemented this year. Previously, we focused on zakat profession only” said Mr. Khozin.

The collected rice will be handovered to the Rangsangbarat people in form consumtive package program. Besides, the people in need will receive some cash money for their daily needs expenditure.

“We have list of poor people as given by the village officials. Before the assistance program be drived, our team firstly verified whether this people in list is entitled as recepient or not. Currently the team is on the field” explained Mr. Khozin.

Mr. Khozin added, the obligation of zakat on agriculture imposed by 5-10% if the paddy production reached 653 kg. This 10% of zakat must be issued by a person if the production is purely self-owned and self-employed. While if the rice field is be rented to the others (sharing profit), he will be imposed by 5%". Besides the agriculture sector, BAZNAS Kepulauan Meranti Districtalso has a planning to drive other sector that are rubber and coconut plantations.

“Before we start the program, we are firstly held the socialization for some times. Praise be to Allah, it has showed the result. We will drive for other sectors step by step” said Mr. Khozin
