The international conference of Zakat and Waqf Synergy in Education 2020 is going to be held virtually. The event concerns on poverty and inequality, which are common problems faced by various countries including by the member countries of the World Zakat Forum.
The condition makes people facing hardships economically and socially to transform the country into developed countries. According to the data from the World Bank, the average inequality ratio in the world reaches 0.38, which indicates, there are 38 out of 100 people who have low or below average income or wealth averagely.
This fact is also strengthened by the study from Credit Suisse Research Institute, which found that one per cent of the adult population on earth presently occupies over 44% of household wealth.
Such condition is compounded by the Pandemic Covid-19. The World Bank states that the COVID-19 pandemic is estimated to push an additional 88 million to 115 million people into extreme poverty this year, with the total rising to as many as 150 million by 2021, depending on the severity of the economic contraction.
Poverty and inequality also cause a lot of children and young generations around the world drop out of their school and college due to the reduction of family’s income amid the pandemic and makes them unable to pay the tuition fees. Thus, they prefer to involve their children to earn some money with them to assist the family's income.
On the above basis, the new appointed WZF Secretary-General, Dr Zainul Baharnoor, expects his first appearance in the international conference of Zakat and Waqf Synergy in Education 2020 held by Zakat Kedah, Malaysia on this coming 13/12/2020.
